BJP-CongressThe northern states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh present a very contrasting picture when it comes to the political battle. While Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are basically a two-horse race with the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) being the rivals, in Uttar Pradesh, which sends the largest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha, it is a four-cornered fight in most of the seats.
According to the CSDS-CNN-IBN Election Tracker survey, the BJP has a lot to cheer as the party is expected to give a tough fight to the Congress in Rajasthan to consolidate its position in Madhya Pradesh.

VotePolitical battles in the southern states have traditionally been between the Congress and regional parties except in Tamil Nadu where the grand old party of India has been reduced to one of the also-rans.

On the other hand the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a spectacular rise in Karnataka has been struggling to make a mark and it is almost non-existent in other states.
According to a CSDS-CNN-IBN survey in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka the ruling parties in the respective states are sitting pretty. But the survey reveals that in Andhra Pradesh the Congress, which had swept the state in 2009, is facing a tough time over Telangana and the rise of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress.

UPA-II has mostly been about shocking big ticket scandals. The size of these is mind-boggling indeed. Scandals to the tune of Rs 1.76 lakh crore and Rs 1,86 lakh crore happen rarely.
The Congress-led ruling coalition has the unique distinction of presiding over both and many others similar scams.

If all the coming general elections were to be fought over the issue of corruption only, the ruling coalition headed by the Congress would be out of power for a long, long time.

lok-sabhaThe neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Gujarat have had a very contrasting political atmosphere.

Maharashtra has become a two horse race since the 1990s with the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party on one side and the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena combine on the other side, but in Gujarat it has been a saffron wave that has swept away all the opposition for nearly two decades.
According to the CSDS-CNN-IBN Election Tracker survey, the situation has not changed much in the two states since the last Lok Sabha elections in 2009.

As India gets ready for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the two key states of West Bengal and Bihar are going to prove very crucial in ensuring who forms the next government at the Centre. Both states are ruled by strong regional parties led by charismatic leaders who are yet to clearly spell out their plans for the next Lok Sabha elections.

According to a CSDS-CNN-IBN survey, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has consolidated its position since the last Lok Sabha elections in 2009 while the situation is not so clear in Bihar where the Janata Dal (United) snapped its ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the elevation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as election campaign committee chief.

Children, both school-going and others, pregnant mothers, the destitute and others would line up both at lunch and dinner time with begging bowls in their hands, as it were.

BJP Will fight 2014 Lok Sabha poll on the issue of development :M Venkaiah Naidu.

lok-sabhaThe BJP would contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls on the issue of development, said party leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday, while accusing the Congress of raking up the bogey of secularism to hide its failures of governance.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi, Naidu rejected Prime Minister Manmohan's criticism of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was a "very popular leader who stands for 3Ds - Decisive, Dynamic and Development oriented".
"These 3Ds are making him the most popular among the people in the country. These 3Ds are missing in the prime minister and his government. People want a decisive, dynamic and development oriented leader and party. That is why they are looking towards the BJP and talking about Narendra Modi," he claimed.

Election Commission directs all State district collectors to set up district level panels to monitor paid news
3rd July

In the wake of increasing incidence of paid news and upcoming Rajasthan Assembly polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed all State district collectors to set up district-level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee. ECI has also recommended an amendment to the Representation of People’s Act, 1951, to include paid news as a corrupt practice.

What will be the role of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee?

The Media Certification and Monitoring Committee is part of a three-tier apparatus — at the District, State and Central level. The Committee will be engaged in suo motu as well as complaint-based monitoring of paid news. If it is established that a candidate has paid for news, the amount paid will be included in his/her election expenditure and he/she will have to furnish this expenditure to the returning officer within 30 days of the elections.
