The UPA's tally is set to crash by 95 in 2014 Lok Sabha election, forecasts a Headlines Today-CVoter opinion poll. The outcome was surprising in the way that the UPA's loss does not seem automatically translating into big gains for the NDA.

Lok Sabha passes resolution condemning attacks by Pakistan.
In a tit-for-tat move, the Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning attacks on India by Pakistan.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said, "Pakistan must not take India's patience for granted… J&K (Jammu & Kashmir), including parts forcibly and illegally occupied by Pakistan, is part of India."

food security billThe government is expected to table the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011 and National Food Security Bill in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. But even even before the two landmark bills are tabled in Parliament, there has been some controversy too.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh opposing the Food Security Bill. Modi has claimed that state governments are not being given a say in determining 'the eligibility criteria' and has asked him to call a meeting of chief ministers on the bill.
However, Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh has taken a dig at Modi for overstepping Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.

Congress begins process to identify candidates for Lok Sabha poll in Karnataka.

Congress in Karnataka has initiated a process to identify party candidates in all the Lok Sabha segments in the state, where it is targeting to win 20-25 seats.
At a general body meeting of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, KPCC President G Parameshwara said observers have also been appointed in each of the 28 constituencies.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said while the party would strive to win all the 28 seats, it must win 20-25 (compared to a mere six in the previous polls in 2009).

Election 2014 was supposed to be an unequal battle. Political observers had written off the possibility of a UPA comeback and the dice looked loaded in favour of the BJP-led NDA. The game has got even now.
Of course, back then nobody foresaw the implosion in the BJP and the NDA over the former’s decision to elevate Narendra Modi as the face of its election campaign. Everyone underestimated the power of the Congress’s survival instincts; some even predicted its death.
