Not a single vote cast in Haryana's Sultanpuri

SULTANPURIA (Sirsa):

• Not a single vote was cast in two polling booths in Sultanpuria village as 1,900 voters boycotted elections over non-fulfillment of their long-pending demand.
• For the past 12 years, villagers have been demanding a water canal for irrigation purpose but no political leader has taken any initiative in this direction. Recently, villagers held a panchayat and decided to boycott elections.

Govt hopes to pass food bill in Lok Sabha today

Keen to pass Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's pet welfare legislation, the Food Security Bill, but concerned over the large number of amendments (over 260) moved by the opposition parties, the government has indicated it would accommodate some of them.The government wants to pass the bill in the Lok Sabha on August 20, the 69th birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

To mark the occasion, Sonia Gandhi will launch the scheme in Delhi while Congress-ruled Haryana and Assam are also expected to start the right to food plan Tuesday.
