For the first time in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, a poll on Monday predicted a clear majority for any pre-poll alliance with NDTV projecting that NDA would get 275 seats in the 543-member House. This is 16 seats more than the poll had predicted last month.

If India is computer, Congress is its default programme: Rahul Gandhi
"If India is computer, Congress is its default programme," Rahul Gandhi on Thursday told a Congress workshop on social media. Addressing odd-300 participants from various states, NSUI and Youth Congress members, the Congress Vice President said the party captures the essence of the nation.
At a time when BJP's key face Narendra Modi is aggressively attacking Congress and the UPA, Rahul advised partymen for restraint saying the country does not appreciate anger and aggression. He asked the party's media managers to stick to facts and decency of language while countering the Opposition propaganda.

Forget 2014, the Congress and BJP need to sit together today
“CNN-IBN-The Hindu Election Tracker poll conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), that paints this unsettling picture, says that though both the major electoral formations will get 29 per cent of the vote share each, the NDA will be ahead with anything between 172 and 180 seats and the UPA behind with 149 to 153 — in short, a gap of 22. The BJP’s score, up from 2009, would be in the range 156 to 164; the Congress’s tally, 131 to 139, down from the last general elections.”

BJP not seen gaining from Cong loss; regional parties will rule the
roost.
If
elections to the Lok Sabha were to be held this month, the Congress-led
United Progressive Alliance is likely to lose 122 seats. This is
reflected in the India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation opinion poll.
But,
no way does the national dialogue ends there. There are reactions
already flowing in from our digital audience. And in this space, the
verdict is loud and clear: BJP is not seen gaining from Congress Party's
perceived loss as both have disappointed the voter, according to our
digital followers.

The
northern states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh present a
very contrasting picture when it comes to the political battle. While
Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are basically a two-horse race with the
Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) being the rivals, in Uttar
Pradesh, which sends the largest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha, it is a
four-cornered fight in most of the seats.
According
to the CSDS-CNN-IBN Election Tracker survey, the BJP has a lot to cheer
as the party is expected to give a tough fight to the Congress in
Rajasthan to consolidate its position in Madhya Pradesh.

Political
battles in the southern states have traditionally been between the
Congress and regional parties except in Tamil Nadu where the grand old
party of India has been reduced to one of the also-rans.
On the other
hand the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a spectacular rise in
Karnataka has been struggling to make a mark and it is almost
non-existent in other states.
According
to a CSDS-CNN-IBN survey in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka the ruling parties
in the respective states are sitting pretty. But the survey reveals
that in Andhra Pradesh the Congress, which had swept the state in 2009,
is facing a tough time over Telangana and the rise of YS Jagan Mohan
Reddy-led YSR Congress.

UPA-II
has mostly been about shocking big ticket scandals. The size of these
is mind-boggling indeed. Scandals to the tune of Rs 1.76 lakh crore and
Rs 1,86 lakh crore happen rarely.
The Congress-led ruling coalition has the unique distinction of
presiding over both and many others similar scams.
If all the coming
general elections were to be fought over the issue of corruption only,
the ruling coalition headed by the Congress would be out of power for a
long, long time.

Election
tracker: Cong-NCP leads in Maharashtra, Modi wave in Gujarat.
The
neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Gujarat have had a very
contrasting political atmosphere.
Maharashtra has become a two horse
race since the 1990s with the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party on one
side and the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena combine on the other
side, but in Gujarat it has been a saffron wave that has swept away all
the opposition for nearly two decades.
According
to the CSDS-CNN-IBN Election Tracker survey, the situation has not
changed much in the two states since the last Lok Sabha elections in
2009.
